1,Use as an isolator

When one port of a three port circulator is connected to the matched load end, it can be used as an isolator because the signal can travel only in one direction between the other ports. The isolator is used to sh1 ield the input side of the device from its output side conditions; for example, to prevent mismatch of the microwave source from mismatched load.

2,Use as a duplex

In radar, the circulator is used as a type of diplexer to route the signal from the transmitter to the antenna and from the antenna to the receiver. Instead of allowing the signal to reach the receiver directly from the transmitter, the signal from the transmitter is sent directly to the antenna, and the receiving signal from the antenna will also be directly entered. Receiver.

As long as the circulator has enough isolation, the transmitter's signal will not enter the receiver. In order to increase the isolation of transceivers, the series of circulators can be increased properly.

3,Used as a reflective amplifier

The reflective amplifier is a microwave amplifier circuit that utilizes negative differential resistance diodes such as tunnel diodes and Gunn diodes. The negative differential resistance diode can amplify the signal, and usually performs better than the two port device at microwave frequency. However, since the diode is a single port (two terminal) device, non reciprocal components are needed to separate the output amplification signal from the input input signal.
